GO BACK TO THE
JERSEY SHORE HOME THEATER

JERSEY SHORE BEACH THEME THEATER DESIGN

The goal of this Seagirt Beach Themed Home Theater Design was to give the homeowner the feel of sitting in a gazebo nestled in the dunes of their local beach. The homeowner's are quite fond of "their" beach at the end of their street and wanted to bring that feeling into their Home Theater Design.
We started by taking very high resolution panoramic pictures of their beach and through the magic of Photoshop, we were able to stitch the series of images together and scale them to fit the specific dimensions of this theater. We created 3 dimensional photo-realistic renderings to give the client a feel for how their theater will look and the final approved images were printed on an acoustical fabric, so the room looks like the beach, but in reality it is a giant speaker grill that hides all the Triad speakers and acoustically absorbing, reflective and diffusive panels and treatments.
The ceiling was done the same way, using a photograph of a cloudy sky that met the desires of the client and color matched to the wall sky colors and printed on acoustical fabric.
All the fabrics were stretched in a fabric tensioning track mounting system to make for a seamless installation.
The ocean is printed on a canvas material and mounted to a motor, so when the theater is not in use, there is a full panoramic view of being at the beach, but when showtime starts, the ocean lifts into the ceiling to expose the 42" x 99" screen.
To conceal the projector, we took a photo of the SeaGirt Lighthouse and made it appear to emerge from behind the dunes off in the distance. The actual lighthouse itself is located behind the dunes in a different spot of the beach, so the integrity of the design remains intact. The image was digitally scaled to allow the windows of the lighthouse to be the exact size of the sealed projector port glass that keeps the projector noise out of the theater and the theater noise out of the rest of the home.
All the wood is solid Cypress and the details are complimentary of a beach gazebo structure. The wood was faux finished to give a naturally aged "weathered" look, but with a surface that easy to clean and maintain.
The lighting is hidden around the perimeter of the ceiling and the walls. It is a programmable LED, color changing lighting and has an infinite number of colors, fades, brightness, blending and time setting options. We created 7 color lighting scenes, including a scene that gradually transitions to create an effect of a sunrise to sunset.
Soundproofing was another requirement requested by the client. The walls and ceiling are all "floating" from the structure of the home, so all the energy created by the the theater is absorbed by a combination of isolation, insulation, mass and multiple layers of soundproofing materials, engineered to all work together to isolate the low frequencies generated by the theater. Even the doors were soundproofed using soundblocking material and special door seals to seal the jambs and gaps between the bottom of the doors and the floor.
The HVAC System was cooridianated to be concealed in the seating platform and perimeter soffit and engineered to be so quiet to not distract from the quietest of dialogue or scenes of any movie at any time, yet efficient enough to heat or cool the theater to create a comfortable environment regardless of how many people were watching in any given season.
Multiple types of absorbing, reflective and diffusive materials were scientifically calculated and strategically placed to optimize the performance of the home theater to create a spacious surround field, yet eliminate underireable reflections which could lead to echos, reverberations and make it difficult to understand dialogue in movies.
The "floating" seating platform and the front corners are designed and engineered as natural bass traps to help eliminate undesireable "boominess" and resonances of the bass.
The end result is a theater that sounds as great as it looks and a perfect example of how Home Theater Lifestyles can build any home theater that can surpass the expectations of the most unique design concept...if you can dream it, we can build it!
